The main objective of the SIM-TWB project (10 partners, 2 year project) is to improve the design and manufacture of tailor-welded blank (TWB) components by using accurate numerical simulation and concurrent engineering methodologies. The sheet pressing operations of tailor-welded blanks will be predicted and optimized via simulation so that a viable product and process design is obtained before costly physical prototyping begins. Companies benefit since this significantly reduces costs and improves time-to-market and competitiveness. Users benefit since this reduces vehicle weight and fuel consumption while improving safety and environmental concerns.
